Hello readers:
Since 1992, when the United States Supreme Court incorrectly upheld the Constitutionality of California's misguided and regressive tax scheme Proposition 13, I have been dedicated to eradicating this wholly harmful amendment to California's constitution.
In this Blog I will explain and describe the numerous ways that Prop 13 has harmed, and continues to harm at exponentially increasing rates, our public services and communities. I will correct deep-seated misconceptions about Prop 13, such as the most nefarious misconception of all -- the false belief that Prop 13 actually helps seniors.
Finally, I will propose an alternate tax plan that succeeds in: (1) truly providing protection for qualified seniors to allow them to stay in their homes (while giving them flexibility to move should they want to do so); (2) gives appropriate control back to local governments to raise tax revenues from their most wealthy residents; and (3) transitions the real estate market back to a healthy market impacted only by non-manipulated forces of supply and demand.
